How to format MicroSD cards as internal memory

It's useful to format microSD cards as internal storage to increase the space on your Android smartphone, but some manufacturers make it difficult. Samsung, LG and Sony smartphones are also able to do this - thanks to a command line trick. Phones with newer Android versions may have issues though.
